When the wicked dies, his 1hope will perish, and 2the expectation of wealtha perishes too.
3The righteous is delivered from trouble, and the wicked walks into it instead.
With his mouth the godless man would destroy his neighbor, but by knowledge the righteous are delivered.
4When it goes well with the righteous, the city rejoices, and when the wicked perish there are shouts of gladness.
By the blessing of the upright a city is exalted, but 5by the mouth of the wicked 6it is overthrown.
Whoever 7belittles his neighbor lacks sense, but a man of understanding remains silent.
Whoever 8goes about slandering reveals secrets, but he who is trustworthy in spirit keeps a thing covered.
Where there is 9no guidance, a people falls, 10but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.
11Whoever puts up security for a stranger will surely suffer harm, but he who hates striking hands in pledge is secure.
12A gracious woman gets honor, and 13violent men get riches.
14A man who is kind benefits himself, but a cruel man hurts himself.
The wicked earns deceptive wages, but one who 15sows righteousness gets a sure reward.
Whoever is steadfast in righteousness 16will live, but 17he who pursues evil will die.
Those of 18crooked heart are 19an abomination to the LORD, but those of 20blameless ways are 21his delight.
22Be assured, 23an evil person will not go unpunished, but 24the offspring of the righteous will be delivered.
Like 25a gold ring in a pig's snout is a beautiful woman without discretion.
The desire of the righteous ends only in good; 26the expectation of the wicked in wrath.
27One gives 28freely, yet grows all the richer; another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want.
29Whoever brings blessing 30will be enriched, and 31one who waters will himself be watered.
32The people curse him who holds back grain, but 33a blessing is on the head of him who 34sells it.
Whoever diligently seeks good seeks favor,b but evil comes to 35him who searches for it.
Whoever 36trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous will 37flourish like a green leaf.
Whoever 38troubles his own household will 39inherit the wind, and the fool will be servant to the wise of heart.
The fruit of the righteous is 40a tree of life, and whoever 41captures souls is wise.
If 42the righteous is repaid on earth, how much more the wicked and the sinner!
