Greeting

1 Paul, 1Silvanus, and Timothy, To the church of the 2Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: 3Grace to you and peace.

The Thessalonians' Faith and Example

2 4We give thanks to God always for all of you, constantlya5mentioning you in our prayers,
3 remembering before 6our God and Father 7your work of faith and labor of 8love and 9steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.
4 For we know, 10brothersb loved by God, 11that he has chosen you,
5 because 12our gospel came to you not only in word, but also in power and 13in the Holy Spirit and with full 14conviction. You know 15what kind of men we proved to be among you for your sake.
6 And 16you became imitators of us 17and of the Lord, for 18you received the word in much affliction, 19with the 20joy of the Holy Spirit,
7 so that you became an example to all the believers in Macedonia and in Achaia.
8 For not only has the word of the Lord 21sounded forth from you in Macedonia and Achaia, but your faith in God has gone forth 22everywhere, so that we need not say anything.
9 For they themselves report concerning us the kind of 23reception we had among you, and how 24you turned to God 25from idols to serve the living and 26true God,
10 and 27to wait for his Son 28from heaven, 29whom he raised from the dead, Jesus 30who delivers us from 31the wrath to come.
